Here you will find a list of website design tools that will help you with your web developing projects. Most are free and some are open source, some are commercial software.

KompoZer is a good HTML open source editor that I am very fond off. The project has come alive after been asleep for 2 years. I am so happy about this, since I am also using KompoZer for one of my tutorials. I am sure that many followers would agree with me that KompoZer is a great tool to have for learning HTML, CSS and more. Have a look at my KompoZer Web tutorial.

Website Design Tools List

CMS “Content Management System”

  1. Joomla : Is one of the world’s most popular open source CMS.
  2. WordPress: Is very similar to Joomla above. You can create beautiful websites and or blogs. We like to say that WordPress is both free and priceless at the same time. You can check my wordpress tutorials to help you get started.

HTML and “WYSIWYG” Editors

  1. Kompozer: Is a complete web authoring system that combines web file management and easy-to-use WYSIWYG web page editing.
  2. dfm2html: Is a wide-spread web design software specialized on generating sophisticated web sites with at least effort possible.
  3. BlueGriffon: Is a new WYSIWYG content editor for the World Wide Web. Powered by Gecko, the rendering engine of Firefox, it’s a modern and robust solution to edit Web pages in conformance to the latest Web Standards.

HTML, PHP and other languages editors

  1. Htmlkit: Is a full-featured editor for markup and code, optimized for web development.
  2. Devphp: Is a well-featured IDE for PHP. Fast and powerful, it is easy to use and has a lot of cool features : class browser, scripts preview, integration with PHP parsers, PHP-GTK library, and Xdebug of course. Dev-PHP-usb slips even into your pocket.
  3. RJ TexEd: Is a full featured text and source editor with Unicode support. It is also a very powerful web (PHP, ASP, JavaScript, HTML and CSS) development editor.
  4. Pspad: Is a freeware programmer’s editor for Microsoft Windows operating systems.

FTP “File Transfer Protocol”

  1. Filezilla: Is one of the best free FTP solutions in the market. Both a client and a server are available. FileZilla is open source software distributed free of charge under the terms of the GNU General Public License

Development Tools

  1. Aptana: The world’s most powerful open-source web development IDE just got better. Rebuilt from the ground-up. It’s now much faster, customizable and includes new features to help you be more productive.
  2. Netobjects: NetObjects Fusion® is powerful Web design software that has earned critical praise and worldwide recognition as one of the fastest, easiest ways to build, manage and promote websites.

WordPress Theme Developer

  1. Themify Flow: Themify Flow is a framework which allows you to build responsive themes within WordPress. And it is FREE! You can even sell your designs to your clients provided they also have Themify Flow installed.
