Integrate Expedia Affiliate Widget Joomla shows you how to integrate the widget into Joomla 3 and above.

Last Updated: January 3, 2023

I have been looking for tutorials to help me add expedia affiliate widget to joomla but I have not been able to find any. So I have decided to add my own tutorial based on the website that I am working on with another developer. The site is Mama Mia Travel, [http://www.mamamiatravel.com/] this website has come a long way since the beginning. This tutorial is based on the pdf file that you can download from their site. Click on the following link EAN-Affiliates-Integration-Guide to download the pdf file.

Integrate Expedia Affiliate Widget Joomla

Steps to be carried out:

Install the latest version of Joomla 2.5.7.

I used one of the default templates for this tutorial but you can use any Joomla template you like.

Sign up with expedia and become an affiliate which is part of this tutorial. You will have access to all their tools, widgets and other goodies.

Log into expedia website and copy and paste the affiliate widget code into the joomla template. Create a php file and name it for example expediaSearchForm.php using a php editor and inset the code in your joomla template, I use pspad editor. You can use css to position the widget on your site by putting the code inside a div container.

The following code is added to the joomla template. (Important: Please keep in mind the changes made to the new Joomla 3X and above and the templates)

<!– start exp-form –>

<?php include(‘expediaSearchForm.php’); ?>

<!– end exp-form–>

Now create a header and footer, following the expedia pdf tutorial you downloaded from above. I use the CleanSite template that I downloaded from the expedia website to guide me with the design.

You now have a working expedia website with a header similar to your website header and a footer. If you have any questions or requests, I will be glad to help you.

Good luck!!

I have been working in IT since 1999 and I enjoy the challenges it brings me. I love developing websites with WordPress. I spend a lot of time helping out in wordpress.org forums. I have been writing tutorials since 2011. Now I am learning how to manage my own VPS "Virtual Private Server.

  1. I was really confuesd, and this answered all my questions.

  2. Thanks for the info. Now….the complicated part. How do you make that widget open to the expedia whitelabel page that is framed in your website? I have been looking everywhere for this and i just cant seem to find it. Also, how do you add your expedia page too joomla in a frame that does not have scroll bars? I want it to auto adjust to the height of the framed expedia page…any ideas anyone?

    • You are welcome Ryan, I can see that you would like to do some kind of set up on your site. Can you provide me with a link to your website so that I can check to see how it looks.

I know what you mean it took me a while to figure out how to integrate expedia with joomla. But if you follow the pdf that you downloaded it helps you to create a page that opens up on its own with your header and footer integrated. That way when someone clicks on the expedia widget they get re-directed to a page with your header and footer. I think this is the best way to go but I can try and help you with your question.

  3. hi,

where should i add the code in my template ?

the cleansite template does not get installed on my joomla, so i want to add the code in my beez5 template, but unfortunately i have no idea where to put the code maybe index.php?

    • Hello Kanuni, thank you for your question. What you have to do is after you have created the file mentioned in my tutorial above. Upload the file to your joomla template directory. Log into Joomla and open the template you want to add the file to in your case it would be beez5. Then add the code as mentioned above anywhere where you want to see the expedia widget. Use css to position and or style the widget.

Let me know if this helps.

      Kind regards

  4. I should have everything set up but I get a 404 error when i test a destination. Any ideas?

    • Hello Scott, thank you for your comment. How have you set up your affiliate widget? Have you set up the account correctly with expedia?

      Kind regards

  5. I published everything that appears that needs to be published on the expedia site and then have it generate a code that I place in my site.

    • Hi Scott, did you run a test on the Expedia site? The error is giving you a some clues. Try and test it again on the Expedia site and send them an e-mail letting them know of the 404 error it is generating.

      Kind regards
